The Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) has announced an exciting initiative to introduce battery-powered tourist vehicles in the bustling Saddar Bazaar. This move aims to enhance convenience for shoppers and families while contributing to a cleaner, greener environment by reducing the reliance on petrol and diesel vehicles in the area. The plan is set to make transportation more eco-friendly and improve the overall visitor experience in one of Rawalpindi’s busiest commercial districts.

The introduction of these electric vehicles (EVs) is part of a broader strategy by the RCB to address environmental concerns, particularly the high levels of pollution caused by traditional motor vehicles, including motorcycles. By shifting to battery-operated vehicles, the RCB is taking significant steps towards reducing the carbon footprint in the Saddar Market, which is a key commercial hub in Rawalpindi. The goal is to make shopping trips and family outings more enjoyable while creating a cleaner and more sustainable environment for both residents and visitors.

To bring this vision to life, the RCB has invited tenders for the purchase of these battery-powered vehicles. Interested parties were invited to submit their bids by January 2, with the opening and review of bids scheduled for January 6. The contract is expected to be awarded to the lowest bidder by January 10, ensuring that the RCB can swiftly proceed with the implementation of this environmentally conscious initiative.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board emphasized the board’s dedication to sustainable urban development. The CEO also underscored the importance of reducing pollution in high-traffic areas like Saddar Bazaar, where the volume of vehicles often contributes to air quality issues. This project aligns with the city’s broader push for green solutions, a trend that is gaining momentum in urban planning across Pakistan.

Once operational, the battery-powered tourist vehicles are expected to provide an easy, comfortable, and pollution-free mode of transportation for those visiting the market. Families will particularly benefit from these eco-friendly vehicles, which will provide a smoother, quieter ride compared to conventional petrol-driven transport. Moreover, the initiative will help raise awareness about the importance of sustainable transportation in urban spaces, encouraging other sectors of the city to consider greener alternatives for their services.

This move also reflects the growing emphasis on improving the quality of life in urban areas while reducing the negative environmental impact of traditional transportation systems. By introducing these electric vehicles, the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board is not only addressing pollution concerns but is also setting a precedent for other cities in Pakistan to adopt similar measures. The initiative has the potential to significantly enhance urban mobility in Rawalpindi, making it a more environmentally conscious city for residents and visitors alike.
