Pakistan has marked an important moment on the global digital stage as Federal Minister for IT and Telecom Shaza Fatima Khawaja visits Kuwait to receive the Presidency of the Digital Cooperation Organization for the 2026 to 2027 term. The transition places Pakistan at the helm of a multilateral platform focused on strengthening collaboration among member states to accelerate digital transformation, enhance technology driven development, and promote inclusive innovation across emerging and developing economies.

During the Grand Opening of the 5th General Assembly of the Digital Cooperation Organization, the Minister outlined Pakistan’s perspective on the opportunities and responsibilities that accompany rapid advances in emerging technologies. Addressing delegates and international stakeholders, she stressed that innovation must be supported by sound governance frameworks that protect users while enabling growth. She highlighted the importance of balancing regulatory oversight with market driven solutions, noting that digital progress depends not only on new technologies but also on trust, security, and clear policy direction. According to the Minister, strong cybersecurity systems, ethical standards, and inclusive digital strategies are necessary to ensure that the benefits of transformation reach businesses, entrepreneurs, and citizens alike rather than remaining limited to a few segments.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to the objectives of Digital Cooperation Organization, Shaza Fatima Khawaja emphasized that collective action among member countries is essential to address shared challenges such as digital divides, cross border data issues, and the safe adoption of advanced tools. She pointed out that cooperation, knowledge exchange, and coordinated policy approaches can help countries scale their digital ecosystems more effectively. By aligning efforts, member states can support innovation, strengthen institutional capacity, and encourage sustainable economic participation in the global digital economy. The Minister stated that the organization provides a platform where governments can work together with a shared purpose to ensure digital transformation delivers inclusive growth and broader prosperity.

As a founding member of Digital Cooperation Organization, Pakistan’s upcoming Presidency reflects its expanding role in international digital policy discussions and its focus on advancing technology enabled development at home and abroad. With the leadership term approaching, the Minister expressed confidence in working closely with other member states to deepen partnerships and guide the organization toward practical outcomes that support citizens, startups, and enterprises across the digital landscape. Pakistan’s assumption of the Presidency is expected to strengthen its engagement in shaping collaborative digital initiatives and reinforce its commitment to responsible innovation, effective governance, and equitable access to technology as countries navigate an increasingly connected world.
