Andrew Ng, the co-founder of Coursera and founder of DeepLearning.AI, has launched a new artificial intelligence company called LearnVector, backed by a $100 million investment from Coursera. The company is aimed at building personalized, one-to-one learning experiences powered by AI, positioning itself as an alternative to the one-size-fits-all model that has defined most online education to date.
Ng described the company’s mission as accelerating human development by shifting learning from a one-to-many model to a genuinely one-to-one experience. He argued that while advances in AI have transformed many industries, the fundamental structure of education has remained largely unchanged, still delivered through standardized courses taught the same way to every learner regardless of their individual pace or needs. LearnVector aims to address this by building a system that plans a learning path with each user, adapts to how they learn, and stays with them until they have mastered a given skill, rather than simply answering questions and moving on.
Ng specifically distinguished LearnVector’s approach from conventional AI chatbots, citing research indicating that chatbots without proper guardrails can actually harm learning outcomes by enabling a form of cognitive offloading, where users complete tasks with AI assistance but retain less of the underlying material. LearnVector intends to work closely with Coursera and its subsidiary Udemy to combine this personalized learning approach with a trusted library of educational content from established sources, addressing what Ng described as the ongoing demand for learning that is both accurate and worth a learner’s time and effort.
The company is based in Mountain View, California, and is currently in a heads down building phase, with Ng saying products will be ready to show by early 2027. LearnVector is actively hiring for a small, on-site team spanning AI engineers, learning engineers, learning scientists, full-stack software engineers, and an operations specialist. Greg Hart, Chief Executive Officer of Coursera, described the investment as a potential force multiplier for the company’s growth, saying Ng’s AI expertise paired with Coursera’s platform and assets could accelerate impact for both individual learners and enterprise customers globally.
