National University of Sciences and Technology hosted a national conference titled Driving the EV Transition: Synergising Policy, Grid, and Green Financing, organized by the US-Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Energy, in collaboration with the Indus Consortium. The conference brought together stakeholders from government, industry, academia, financial institutions, and civil society to discuss the different dimensions shaping Pakistan’s shift toward electric mobility.
Industry pioneers and electric vehicle manufacturers showcased their products alongside research based prototypes developed by academic institutions, giving attendees a direct look at both commercial offerings and early stage research emerging from Pakistan’s universities. Bringing manufacturers and academic researchers together under one roof reflected the conference’s broader aim of connecting practical industry progress with ongoing research efforts in the electric mobility space.
Discussions at the conference centered on the need for stronger policy coordination, closer industry collaboration, sustainable financing mechanisms, and expanded infrastructure development to support Pakistan’s electric mobility transition. These themes reflect some of the persistent challenges facing electric vehicle adoption in the country, including the availability of charging infrastructure, financing options for both manufacturers and consumers, and the regulatory clarity needed to attract sustained investment in the sector.
The conference adds to a growing set of policy and industry discussions around Pakistan’s electric mobility transition, following recent developments including the country’s upcoming Auto Industry Development and Export Policy 2026-31, which is expected to introduce toll waivers and other incentives for electric and plug in hybrid vehicles, as well as continued private sector investment in charging infrastructure from companies such as HUBCO. By bringing together policy, financing, and technical perspectives in a single forum, the NUST conference reflects the multi stakeholder coordination that will be required to accelerate Pakistan’s shift toward electric transport.
