Pakistan Government spokesperson Raja Ansari has announced a major initiative to distribute free laptops to students in Karachi under a new federal programme. He revealed that Prime Minister will personally launch the mega project this December at the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam, where students will be presented with laptops as part of the government’s drive to enhance access to technology and education in the city. This move reflects a larger policy push to extend federal-level support for Karachi’s youth and educational infrastructure.
Ansari underscored the federal government’s commitment to delivering facilities to Karachi residents through collaborative projects with Sindh authorities. He explained that despite the limited federal representation in Sindh, Islamabad is pressing ahead with development plans for the province. According to him, the initiative is not designed to score political points but rather to strengthen cooperation with the Sindh government and the Mayor of Karachi. By partnering with provincial stakeholders, the federal government aims to implement projects more effectively and ensure that benefits reach communities on the ground.
In his remarks, Ansari also shared that the federal government is preparing to roll out 22 mega projects worth 334 billion rupees across Karachi. These undertakings are expected to address multiple sectors and provide long-term improvements to infrastructure and public services. He took the opportunity to commend Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori, describing him as a positive force in the province’s governance. This tone of collaboration, he said, is essential for driving forward the city’s development agenda and for creating an environment conducive to large-scale federal interventions.
The planned laptop distribution at Quaid-e-Azam’s mausoleum will serve as a flagship event of the December launch, symbolising the government’s focus on equipping students with modern tools to support their studies and future careers. Officials familiar with the initiative have highlighted that by combining access to technology with broader infrastructural improvements, the government is laying a foundation for sustainable development in Karachi. This alignment between federal and provincial authorities is presented as a practical approach to uplifting education, connectivity and living standards for residents.
