Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has given the green light to what is being hailed as the “largest reform program in the history of Ease of Doing Business” in Pakistan. The initiative aims to attract business and investment by streamlining processes and removing bureaucratic hurdles.

At the heart of this ambitious plan is the creation of Pakistan’s first digital registry of laws and regulations, designed to simplify business operations and enhance transparency. The Prime Minister expressed gratitude to international institutions for their interest in funding the project and urged swift finalization of agreements to secure the necessary support.

Acknowledging the support of American development partners, PM Shehbaz emphasized the importance of their assistance in implementing the government’s broader economic reform agenda. He called on officials and ministries to ensure the timely execution of policy measures and announced the formation of a special committee dedicated to overseeing the project’s implementation.

In its initial phase, the reform program will focus on high-priority sectors, with the goal of reducing the time required for registration, permits, and other essential processes through digitization. The Prime Minister extended his thanks to Dr. Scott Jacob for his work on the project and praised the Board of Investment and other departments for their role in developing the strategy.

The meeting was attended by key figures including federal ministers Ahad Khan Cheema, Attaullah Tarar, Muhammad Aurangzeb, Abdul Aleem Khan, state minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja, and the chief secretaries of the four provinces.
