Pakistan Freelancers Association is set to organize a national recognition ceremony for Pakistani freelancers on August 29 at Governor House Sindh, bringing together freelancers and industry representatives to recognize contributions to Pakistan’s digital workforce. The ceremony will honor freelancers across multiple categories for their professional achievements and contribution to the country’s economy through foreign exchange earnings. A separate category has also been introduced to recognize the achievements of female freelancers, highlighting the growing participation of women in Pakistan’s freelance economy. Governor Sindh Nehal Hashmi is expected to attend the event as chief guest, while Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima will participate as guest of honor.
According to the Pakistan Freelancers Association, the recognition ceremony is being organized to give greater visibility to freelancers and acknowledge their growing contribution to Pakistan’s economy. Chairman Ibrahim Amin said the country’s freelance community has become an important contributor to foreign exchange earnings, with around three million Pakistani freelancers generating approximately $1.7 billion during the 2025-26 financial year. Recent State Bank of Pakistan data also showed that freelancers generated $175.439 million in export receipts during July 2026, representing a 45.5 percent increase compared with $120.556 million recorded in July 2025. Information technology freelance services contributed $106.778 million during the month, while non-information technology freelance services generated $68.661 million.
Pakistan Freelancers Association President and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Imran Batada said the awards are intended to bring the country’s growing digital workforce together on a national platform and highlight the opportunities available through the global gig economy. The organization expects the recognition of successful freelancers to encourage students and young professionals to develop skills in areas with international demand and consider freelancing as a career option. The event will also provide an opportunity for professionals working across different freelance categories to receive recognition for their performance and contribution. The judging panel includes representatives and professionals from different sectors, while the event is also being supported by organizations involved in Pakistan’s technology, education and digital economy ecosystem.
The ceremony comes as freelancing continues to gain importance within Pakistan’s broader digital economy. Freelancers work with international clients across information technology and non-information technology fields, generating foreign exchange while creating income opportunities outside traditional employment structures. Pakistan Freelancers Association has been involved in initiatives focused on skills development, industry connections and greater recognition for freelance professionals. The August 29 ceremony at Governor House Sindh is expected to bring together government representatives, industry figures and members of the freelance community, providing a platform to recognize professionals whose work contributes to Pakistan’s expanding participation in the global digital services market.
