STEMx, described as the STEM School for the World, has opened applications for STEM Next Wave 22, a week-long winter programme centered around Mathematics and Computer Science that will bring together students from different backgrounds to learn, build, and explore alongside peers who share similar academic interests. The programme is scheduled to take place at the Institute of Business Administration in Karachi, offering participants a week of structured learning combined with opportunities to experience university life firsthand.

According to the announcement, students attending the programme will have the chance to make connections with others who share their interest in Mathematics and Computer Science, while also learning directly from university professors and faculty members who will guide participants through the week’s academic content. Participants will work on projects related to Mathematics and Computer Science throughout the programme, with the structure designed to combine classroom based learning with hands-on project work rather than relying solely on lectures. The week is also set to include activities beyond the standard classroom setting, giving students exposure to different aspects of campus and academic life during their time at IBA.

The programme description also highlights an element of exposure to professionals and guest speakers, with organizers noting that students will have opportunities to meet guest speakers and hear directly from people currently working in STEM related fields. This aspect of the programme appears intended to give participants a broader sense of how the academic material they engage with during the week connects to real world work in mathematics, computer science, and related technical disciplines, beyond what a purely classroom based curriculum might typically offer.

Applications for STEM Next Wave 22 are open through the link provided in the announcement, with the programme positioned as a way for interested students to make use of their winter break period productively. Organizers framed the week as an opportunity for students to leave with new skills, new ideas, and an expanded network of peers and contacts, adding it to a growing set of STEM focused extracurricular programmes being offered to students in Pakistan through partnerships between educational organizations and university campuses such as IBA Karachi.
