Pakistan’s 5G user base has reached around 1.3 million as next generation mobile services expand across 23 cities, with more than 1,200 5G sites now activated nationwide. The latest figures indicate continued growth in 5G adoption during the first four months of commercial rollout, following the introduction of services by major telecom operators. The expansion is being monitored by Pakistan Telecommunication Authority and Ministry of IT and Telecommunication as operators continue increasing network coverage and capacity across major urban areas.

The 5G rollout began after the government conducted the Next Generation Mobile Services spectrum auction in March 2026, followed by the issuance of licences to participating operators. Commercial services subsequently became available in several major cities, with operators expanding their networks in phases. The latest rollout figures show that 5G services are now available across 23 cities, representing an increase in geographic coverage since the initial launch. More than 1,200 sites have been activated, giving compatible devices access to fifth generation mobile connectivity in selected areas. Earlier PTA figures indicated that 1,136 5G sites were operational across the 23 cities as of August 4, with Jazz accounting for 689 sites, Zong for 338 and Ufone for 109.

The growth in the number of users also reflects increasing availability of 5G compatible smartphones and other devices in Pakistan. The technology is designed to provide higher data speeds, lower latency and greater network capacity compared with previous generations of mobile connectivity. As operators continue expanding their infrastructure, the availability of 5G services is expected to increase for consumers and businesses in additional locations. Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad have recorded some of the largest deployments so far, while other cities are also being included as operators extend their networks. The rollout is taking place alongside continued use of existing 4G infrastructure, allowing telecom companies to expand service availability while increasing network capacity for growing demand.

The 1.3 million user milestone comes only a few months after Pakistan entered the commercial 5G phase, indicating relatively rapid early adoption among customers with compatible devices and access to covered areas. Telecom operators are continuing to invest in network deployment as the government and PTA monitor coverage, service quality and the broader rollout. The expansion of 5G is expected to support faster mobile internet access and provide additional network capacity for consumers, businesses and emerging digital services. With services now active across 23 cities and more than 1,200 sites deployed, further expansion will determine how quickly 5G becomes available to a larger portion of Pakistan’s mobile subscriber base.
