Pakistan’s information and communications technology sector opened fiscal year 2026-27 with ICT export remittances of US$417 million in July, according to data shared by Pakistan Software Export Board. The figure represents a 17.80 percent increase compared with the same month last year and marks a higher starting point for the new fiscal year. Alongside the increase in export remittances, the sector recorded an ICT trade surplus of US$344 million during July, which was 14.29 percent higher on a year-on-year basis. PSEB shared the figures as an early indicator of activity in Pakistan’s technology led services sector, highlighting the continued contribution of ICT related businesses to the country’s export earnings.

The July figures cover the first month of FY2026-27 and provide an initial indication of the performance of Pakistan’s ICT export sector during the new fiscal year. ICT export remittances represent foreign earnings generated through the country’s information technology and information technology enabled services, while the trade surplus reflects the difference between ICT related exports and imports. The US$344 million surplus recorded in July indicates that the sector continued to generate a substantial net contribution from its international services activity. The year-on-year increase in both indicators comes as Pakistani technology companies, IT service providers and other digital businesses continue to serve clients in international markets. PSEB, which supports the development and promotion of Pakistan’s technology export industry, highlighted the latest figures through its official communication as the fiscal year got underway.

The organization also pointed to the growing impact of artificial intelligence on international industries, business models and technology markets. As AI adoption changes the way companies develop products and deliver services, countries competing in the global technology market are facing increasing demand for digital capabilities and specialized technical skills. Pakistan’s ICT sector is therefore operating in an environment where access to skilled professionals, digital infrastructure, technology investment and international market opportunities can influence future export performance. PSEB noted that Pakistan’s ability to expand its digital capabilities and compete in global technology markets will remain important as AI continues to affect different areas of the technology economy. The July increase provides a positive starting point, while the performance across subsequent months will determine how the sector progresses during the full fiscal year.

The latest figures also come as the government continues to focus on increasing Pakistan’s technology exports and expanding the country’s position in international IT services markets. PSEB and Ministry of IT and Telecommunication have been working on initiatives connected with the development and promotion of the country’s technology industry, including international market access and support for IT exporters. The July results indicate that ICT export remittances have maintained year-on-year growth at the beginning of FY2026-27, while the increase in the trade surplus shows continued net foreign exchange contribution from the sector. With US$417 million in ICT export remittances and a US$344 million trade surplus recorded in the first month, the technology sector has provided an early indication of its export activity for the new fiscal year. Further monthly performance will provide a clearer picture of whether this growth rate can be maintained throughout FY2026-27.
