Punjab Information Technology Board held a focus group session with representatives from the information technology industry and training sector under its Global IT Products Skills Enhancement program, with discussions centered on improving the digital capabilities of Punjab’s workforce. The session brought together industry stakeholders to gather feedback on the program and examine how its objectives could be aligned with current market requirements. The initiative is focused on building information technology capacity among working professionals and improving access to globally recognized skills and certifications.
The meeting was held on behalf of PITB Chairman Faisal Yousaf and was presided over by Director General Information Technology Solutions Waqar Naeem Qureshi. Participants included representatives from Pakistan Software Houses Association, Nexskill, Corvit, Knowledge Streams, Excellence Delivered and OnWire. PITB Director Rana Abid Mehmood also attended the session, along with Vice Chairman P@SHA Raheel Iqbal, Chief Executive Officer Corvit Ali Safdar Raja and Director Knowledge Streams Haroon Ahmad Malki. The participation of organizations from different parts of the information technology and training ecosystem provided an opportunity to discuss workforce requirements, professional training and the skills needed by technology companies operating in local and international markets.
A key objective of the session was to obtain industry feedback that could help PITB refine the concept and implementation of the Global IT Products Skills Enhancement program. Participants discussed the importance of aligning professional training with changing global IT trends so that workers can develop skills that remain relevant to employers. The discussions also covered ways to create a lasting impact for Pakistan’s working professionals by incorporating industry expertise into capacity building initiatives. Greater coordination between government institutions, technology companies and training organizations was highlighted as an important component of developing workforce skills that correspond with market demand.
The participants also discussed the need to increase Pakistan’s digital footprint through greater representation in globally recognized IT certifications. The program aims to contribute toward this objective by bringing together government and industry expertise to improve access to relevant training and professional development opportunities. Global certifications can provide technology professionals with credentials that are recognized by employers across different markets, potentially supporting career development and the availability of skilled workers for Pakistan’s information technology sector. Through continued consultation with industry stakeholders, PITB intends to refine the program and ensure that its training focus reflects current technology requirements. The initiative forms part of broader efforts to develop Punjab’s information technology workforce and improve the province’s participation in the global digital economy.
