As the coronavirus pandemic has caused a lockdown  for over a month now, telecom operators have now tried to ensure that their customers can use their services to make their tasks all the more easier. They have recently announced the launch of new packages that will facilitate users during COVID-19.

In an effort to ensure uninterrupted service amidst coronavirus, telecom operators have announced new packages have been introduced at a lower price point by all Cellular Mobile Operators (CMOs) to help people to stay and work from home. These Cellular Mobile Operators (CMOs) have already aimed to ensure proper information is spread by replacing standard ring back tone which is heard when a call is being made with messages about COVID-19 preventive measures.

Some of these features include removing the worry or deadline of balance validity period by Jazz and extension in balance validity period by Zong alongside free Whatsapp and balance share promotions by Telenor. Zong has also made COVID related webpages of WHO and NDMA with free access to these websites. Alongside this, Jazz has also created a dedicated webpage/portal which can be accessed through: https://jazz.com.pk/darna-nahin-bachna-hai where users can look up verified information about coronavirus. Jazz has worked alongside this by launching the “Assistance for Free” service which allows users to  make free calls to select government offices or doctors or laboratories. Finally, Zong has launched the service of free calls to 4343 which offers access to local Government hospitals and doctors while Ufone made a Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) helpline at 1030 which is free of cost for its users.

All CMOS have also offered free calls to emergency numbers by calling the number 1166. PTCL has went outside the telecom route and is also offering free of cost internet to double play voice and TV customers till 30th April 2020. They have also went on to extend their deadline in billing dates for wireline customers. The Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations, and Coordination (MoNHSRC) recently requested the PTA and worked alongside them to SMS alerts to people who might have come in contact with COVID-19 affected people during traveling or at other places.
