Pakistan and China have expanded cooperation in livestock and agriculture, advancing bilateral industrial collaboration under the CPEC 2.0 framework. The development follows the January 19 to 24 engagements held during the 2026 China Pakistan Agriculture Investment Conference, where multiple agreements were finalized to enhance coordination in animal husbandry and veterinary sciences. The renewed focus is aimed at strengthening technology transfer, research partnerships and skills development to modernize Pakistan’s livestock sector and improve its industrial capacity.
During the visit, Jinan Animal Husbandry Industry Craftsman College signed agreements with Pak China Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry and GO DAIRY Private Limited to establish a China Pakistan Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Industry Technology Cooperation Center. The proposed center will focus on research and development, formulation of industry standards and specialized talent training to upgrade breeding practices and productivity. In a separate memorandum with GO DAIRY Private Limited, cooperation will extend to advanced sheep in vitro fertilization and dairy cow breeding technologies, providing technical solutions and on site guidance to address breeding challenges and enhance herd quality.
Academic and vocational collaboration also formed a key component of the discussions. An understanding was reached with University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences to jointly develop curricula and set up a training base for vocational education and professional skills in livestock management. To streamline coordination and ensure implementation, both sides agreed to establish a dedicated China Pakistan Animal Husbandry Cooperation Center that will maintain regular communication and oversee project progress. Priority research areas include applications of Himalayan pink salt in livestock feed, sheep IVF technology and dairy cow breeding improvement. A joint laboratory will also be established to support technology localization and practical industrial applications tailored to local conditions.
Beyond livestock, China has committed to offering study and training opportunities to 3,000 Pakistani students, reinforcing educational and technical linkages under CPEC 2.0. The latest agreements reflect a shift toward technology driven and skill oriented collaboration, integrating research, industrial application and workforce development. Officials believe the enhanced partnership will contribute to improved breeding standards, higher agricultural productivity and stronger rural incomes while supporting food security and export potential in Pakistan.
