WhatsApp is developing a new Payments section for its iOS application that could indicate plans to expand its payment services beyond the limited number of countries where the feature is currently available. The development remains in an early stage and WhatsApp has not confirmed any wider international rollout.
The new Payments section was identified in WhatsApp beta for iOS version 26.33.10.70 through TestFlight. The feature is not currently available to beta testers, meaning the company is still developing the functionality and has not announced a public release date. The interface reportedly includes options for users to pay contacts directly, save credit and debit card information, and manage billing details. Users could also potentially save shipping information, including an email address, phone number and delivery address. The developing section includes controls that could allow users to download or delete stored payment information.
The appearance of additional countries in the billing address selector has also attracted attention. Countries shown in the developing interface include the Netherlands, Australia, Austria, Canada, Germany, Ghana, Italy, Spain and the United States. However, the presence of these countries does not confirm that WhatsApp is preparing to launch payments in any of these markets. Instead, the information may indicate that WhatsApp is developing a payment system capable of supporting users and billing information across a wider range of international markets. Any expansion would require the company to meet local financial regulations and establish appropriate payment infrastructure and partnerships in each country.
WhatsApp already provides payment services in selected markets through different local systems and financial partnerships. In India, the platform supports payments through Unified Payments Interface, while Brazil uses the Pix payment system for peer to peer transfers. WhatsApp has also partnered with Stripe in Singapore, where payments operate through PayNow, while businesses in Mexico can accept payments through the platform. These existing implementations show that WhatsApp uses different payment arrangements depending on the market and its regulatory and financial infrastructure. A wider rollout would therefore involve more than simply enabling the feature within the application, as each market would require regulatory compliance and suitable payment arrangements.
For now, there is no confirmed list of countries, launch schedule or official announcement regarding an international expansion of WhatsApp Payments. The new iOS Payments section remains under development, and its final features could change before any public release. The development nevertheless indicates that WhatsApp is working on a broader payment interface that could allow users to manage financial information and make transactions directly within the messaging application. If the company proceeds with wider availability, the service could give users in additional markets access to payments without requiring them to leave WhatsApp, although the timing and scope of any expansion remain unconfirmed.
