Higher Education Commission, in partnership with Clarivate, is holding a webinar titled Choosing the Right Journal, aimed at helping researchers use Journal Citation Reports to evaluate journals, understand key metrics and make informed publication decisions. The session forms part of the HEC-Clarivate Webinar Series focused on advancing research discovery and publication excellence across Pakistan’s academic institutions.

The webinar, titled Choosing the Right Journal, Using Journal Citation Reports to Publish with Confidence, is scheduled for September 3, 2026, from 2 to 3 PM Pakistan Standard Time. The session will be led by Anas Obaid, Senior Customer Success Consultant for Academia and Government at Clarivate, who will walk participants through how to evaluate journals using trusted indicators such as the Journal Impact Factor, Journal Citation Indicator, quartiles and category rankings, while also highlighting how to avoid misleading metrics.

Journal Citation Reports, published by Clarivate, is a widely used international ranking resource covering journals indexed in the Web of Science Core Collection, giving researchers, institutions and publishers a standardized way to assess a journal’s trustworthiness and impact before submitting or citing work. Clarivate’s most recent 2025 release of the JCR indexed more than 22,000 journals from over 100 countries across more than 250 categories, underscoring the scale of the dataset researchers can draw on when making publication decisions.

The webinar is free and open to faculty, researchers and students at HEC recognized universities across Pakistan, with registration available through the official link shared by HEC. By offering direct guidance on interpreting citation based metrics, the session is intended to help Pakistani researchers make more informed choices about where to publish their work, an increasingly important consideration as academic institutions place growing emphasis on journal quality and research impact in evaluating scholarly output.
