Excise & Taxation Department Punjab has launched an online vehicle verification system aimed at simplifying the process for residents in Pakistan as well as overseas citizens. In collaboration with NADRA, the initiative enables vehicle owners to complete biometric verification through the PAK-ID platform, eliminating the need to visit excise offices or rely on intermediaries for processing. This new system provides a fully digital alternative that improves convenience, transparency, and efficiency across the verification process.

Previously, vehicle verification for overseas Pakistanis involved submitting attested affidavits verified either by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or Pakistani embassies, which required multiple steps and could take weeks to complete. Local residents faced similar challenges, often needing to physically visit regional excise offices to complete verification. By introducing biometric authentication through PAK-ID, the department removes these manual procedures, allowing verification to be completed from anywhere in the world. The system supports NICOP holders alongside local citizens, creating a unified platform for secure and verifiable identification.

The new digital framework is expected to reduce errors, prevent misuse, and streamline record management for both the government and vehicle owners. By linking vehicle verification with NADRA’s biometric infrastructure, the platform ensures that all verifications are accurate and authenticated against official national identity records. Officials emphasized that this approach aligns with broader efforts to digitize government services in Pakistan, providing accessible tools for citizens while reducing administrative bottlenecks.

Experts note that the PAK-ID verification system marks an important step in modernizing vehicle-related services. Beyond simplifying the verification process, the initiative also increases accountability and record integrity, ensuring that all vehicles are properly registered and associated with verified owners. The digital approach is particularly beneficial for Pakistanis living abroad, who can now manage vehicle verifications remotely without relying on third-party intermediaries or embassy visits. As the government continues to expand e-governance initiatives, PAK-ID is expected to serve as a model for future digital verification services in sectors ranging from taxation to licensing and public administration.
