Shafi Ullah Jan has assumed additional charge of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Technology Board (KPITB), adding another technology related responsibility to his existing role as Provincial Minister for Information and Public Relations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. KPITB has formally welcomed him to the additional position.
With the new responsibility, Shafi Ullah Jan will serve as Minister for Science, Technology and Information Technology in addition to his existing cabinet role. He currently holds the portfolio of Information and Public Relations in the provincial government, giving him responsibilities across information, communication and technology related matters. Shafi Ullah Jan is a politician and businessman from Kohat District and has served as a member of the Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa since February 2024. The assignment expands his role within the provincial cabinet at a time when technology and digital services are becoming an increasingly important part of provincial government operations. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has been pursuing several initiatives involving digital governance and technology services, while the Science, Technology and Information Technology Department oversees the promotion of science and technology and Information Technology activities across the province.
KPITB is a public sector autonomous organization established under an Act of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly in May 2011. Its mandate includes promoting Information Technology, Information Technology Enabled Services and Information Technology enabled education across the public and private sectors of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The board has also been assigned a role in supporting the province’s digital transformation through technology initiatives and services. The Science, Technology and Information Technology Department describes KPITB as an autonomous body formed in 2011 that promotes Information Technology, digital services and technology education in the province. The department also highlights its work in supporting digital development and technology based initiatives across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The additional charge comes as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa continues work on digital government services and technology focused programmes. Recent provincial initiatives have included Digital Khyber Pakhtunkhwa projects involving paperless governance, artificial intelligence and digital services, while KPITB has remained one of the institutions responsible for technology related development in the province. The provincial government has also highlighted digital governance and the digitization of public services as part of its broader administrative agenda. Earlier this month, Shafi Ullah Jan also highlighted KPITB’s international recognition after the board was selected for the ASOCIO Government Award 2026 for its work in the digital sector, innovation and digital governance. The award is scheduled to be formally presented during the ASOCIO Summit in Jakarta in October 2026.
The appointment places KPITB under the additional oversight of a serving provincial minister who already handles the Information and Public Relations portfolio. His expanded responsibilities will include the Science, Technology and Information Technology portfolio, alongside his existing cabinet duties. KPITB’s mandate covers technology development, Information Technology Enabled Services and technology education, making the board a key institution within Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s digital development framework. The provincial government’s ongoing focus on digital services and technology means the additional charge comes as the province continues to develop technology based services and administrative systems. KPITB’s formal welcome to Shafi Ullah Jan marks the beginning of his additional responsibility over the board and its activities.
