Turkcell, Türkiye’s leading telecommunications operator and technology company, is strengthening its position in the international research and development ecosystem by joining six additional international projects supported under some of Europe’s most competitive research programmes. Representing Türkiye in R&D studies considered critical for setting international standards, the company will play an active role across these projects at various stages, from developing next generation technologies to validating them under real world field conditions and integrating them into international standards.

The projects Turkcell is involved in focus on strategic areas including 6G technologies, artificial intelligence, resilience of critical digital infrastructure, emergency communications and sustainable technologies. Among these, the MAGIC-6G project, supported under the European Union’s Horizon Europe Programme, aims to develop next generation technologies using artificial intelligence to make networks smarter, more autonomous and more sustainable with 6G, involving nine stakeholders from Turkey, Germany, Sweden, Greece, the United Kingdom, Spain and Finland. Turkcell will contribute by developing a large language model based service tailored specifically for telecommunications operators, alongside next generation algorithms supporting more autonomous and dynamic network management.

Separately, the 3D-NET project will focus on the goal of connectivity everywhere for 6G, aiming for integrated operation of terrestrial and non terrestrial networks to strengthen coverage and communication continuity during crises, with Turkcell contributing three dimensional network structures. The FUTURE-6G project, the first from Türkiye to be accepted under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Industrial Doctoral Networks within Horizon Europe, will develop AI focused technologies while training expert researchers, with Turkcell contributing to autonomous network management and reliable AI decision making systems. On infrastructure resilience, the SAFARI project will focus on next generation resilient infrastructure allowing telecommunications, energy and transportation systems to operate together during crises, with Turkcell leading development of communication solutions supporting continuity of emergency call services.

Rounding out its portfolio, Turkcell will coordinate the UNIFIER project internationally, aimed at maintaining communication during extraordinary situations involving damaged infrastructure through a hybrid communication system tested in real field conditions across Turkey and Europe. The company will also contribute to the RESURRECTION project, which uses artificial intelligence, robotics and digital technologies for sustainable and circular production, with Turkcell leading efforts on modem remanufacturing and reuse processes. According to Turkcell Deputy General Manager for Network Technologies Prof. Dr. Vehbi Çağrı Güngör, the company’s participation across six international projects in coordination and technical leadership roles reflects confidence in its international R&D strength, spanning 6G, artificial intelligence, infrastructure resilience and sustainable technologies.
