Apple has officially introduced iPhone Duo, the company’s first foldable iPhone, marking what the company describes as its most significant design change to the device since the original iPhone launched. Opened, iPhone Duo becomes the thinnest iPhone Apple has ever produced, featuring a 7.6 inch inner display designed to give users a large canvas for viewing content, gaming, and multitasking, complete with a nano texture finish intended to reduce glare. When closed, the device offers a 5.4 inch outer display that provides 90 percent of the screen area found on the iPhone 18 Pro, allowing it to remain compact and comfortable for one handed use despite the larger internal screen.
The device is built around a precision hinge engineered from more than 100 individual components, designed to hold the display flat when open while delivering a smooth, satisfying closing motion aided by an integrated magnet array. Apple emphasized durability throughout the device’s construction, using grade 5 titanium for the enclosure along with Ceramic Shield protection on the back and an updated Ceramic Shield 2 on the front that offers three times better scratch resistance than the previous generation. iPhone Duo also carries an IP68 rating for splash, water, and dust resistance, while internal support ribs and ceramic fiber antenna inserts add further structural rigidity. Powering the device is Apple’s new A20 Pro chip, paired with a custom vapor chamber thermal system that the company says delivers up to 35 percent better sustained performance compared to the iPhone 17 Pro, alongside a dual battery architecture that offers up to 31 hours of video playback using the inner display and up to 44 hours when relying on the outer display alone.
On the software side, iOS 27 has been specifically adapted for the foldable form factor, repositioning Lock Screen controls, the Dock, and navigation elements to the side of the screen to maximize vertical space for content. The device supports Split View multitasking, allowing two apps to run side by side on an iPhone for the first time, along with the ability to run two windows of the same app simultaneously. Apple also highlighted new camera capabilities made possible by the folding design, including Duo Preview, which shows a live preview on the outer display to help subjects check their framing, and Duo FaceTime, which lets a second person join a video call using the outer display and camera. The device ships with access to Siri AI, an entirely new and more conversational version of Siri powered by Apple Intelligence that can draw on personal context across messages, emails, and photos, along with onscreen awareness to take actions related to whatever content a user is currently viewing.
iPhone Duo will be available in star white and night sky color options, crafted from titanium with a mirror polished finish, and starts at 1,999 dollars in the United States for the base 256GB storage configuration, with 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB options also available. Apple also introduced two companion accessories, the iPhone Duo Folio priced at 129 dollars and the iPhone Duo Case priced at 79 dollars. Pre-orders begin on October 16, with availability starting October 23 in more than 70 countries and regions, followed by a wider rollout to 28 additional markets on October 30. The device will ship running iOS 27.1, while Apple Intelligence and the Siri AI beta are set to roll out separately on September 14 for users with supported devices and languages.
