Apple is preparing to expand its redesigned Siri AI beyond English, with support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish scheduled to arrive in October. The company announced the language expansion during its latest iPhone event, confirming the next stage of the rollout for its long-awaited artificial intelligence-powered assistant. Siri AI is currently available through the iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 beta versions in English, while broader access for English-speaking users is scheduled to begin when Apple releases its latest operating system updates publicly on September 14. The October expansion will make the redesigned assistant available to users across five additional languages, although Apple has not announced an exact date for the October rollout.
Siri AI is a substantially redesigned version of Apple’s digital assistant and is built on the company’s Apple Intelligence platform. Apple says the new Siri can understand personal context, recognise content displayed on a user’s screen and access information across applications such as Messages, Mail and Photos. It can also answer questions using information from the web and perform actions across supported applications. Apple’s new architecture combines on-device processing with Private Cloud Compute for requests that require server-based processing. The company says personal data sent through Private Cloud Compute is not stored or made accessible to Apple. Siri AI is therefore intended to provide more conversational interactions while retaining Apple’s existing focus on privacy and on-device processing where possible.
The rollout will also come with usage limits for certain Siri AI requests. Apple has confirmed that prompts requiring its cloud compute AI models will be subject to daily limits, although it has not yet disclosed the exact number of requests users will receive. Users subscribed to iCloud+ plans will receive expanded access, but Apple has not provided details about the specific limits or which plan tiers will receive which allowances. The distinction between on-device and cloud-based processing could become more important as users begin using the new assistant for more complex requests. Apple has also highlighted newer devices, including the iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max and iPhone Air, which use more powerful on-device models to provide improved speech recognition and dictation.
Hardware compatibility will also determine who can use Siri AI. Apple’s announced support reaches back to the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, while the broader Apple Intelligence and Siri AI platform also supports newer iPhone models and compatible iPads and Macs. Apple has said that some capabilities may vary depending on language and region, and Siri AI will not initially be available in China. The company has also stated that iOS, iPadOS and watchOS versions of Siri AI will not initially be available in the European Union, although Mac and Apple Vision Pro users in the region will be able to access Siri AI when using a supported language. With English access expanding on September 14 and French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish planned for October, Apple is moving the redesigned Siri into a wider public rollout while leaving some usage, regional and feature availability details to be clarified.
