Governor of Sindh Imran Ismail stated that the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority’s (SMEDA) initiatives to develop Pakistan’s e-commerce sector can result in the creation of thousands of new jobs as well as a significant opportunity for export promotion through global e-commerce platforms like Amazon.

He was speaking at Governor House Sindh on Friday during the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between SMEDA and a leading e-commerce company, “The Extreme Commerce.” Governor Sindh complimented the Pakistani government for its efforts, particularly the Ministry of Industries and Production for focusing special attention through SMEDA to helping local SMEs to take advantage of Amazon’s global commerce potential. He indicated that SMEDA aimed to take specific steps to promote the development of e-commerce as a full-fledged industry. On this occasion, SMEDA CEO Hashim Raza said that SMEDA would launch a long-term programme to improve SMEs’ access to global markets through Amazon and other significant platforms. He claimed that we will bring all essential E-Commerce supporting firms into the loop in order to help Pakistani SMEs get the most out of the government’s official agreement with Amazon.

According to him, the first memorandum of agreement, which he signed with “Extreme Commerce,” is focused on the development of skills and capacity building for SMEs in the field of e-commerce. In his presentation, Mr Sunny Ali, CEO of Extreme Commerce, indicated that the MOU with SMEDA will allow SMEs to begin selling their products.

Both organisations will work together to give SMEs with the necessary expertise and training to assist them digitalize their operations and reach out to more customers in global markets without incurring high travel costs. Later, CEO SMEDA Hashim Raza and CEO Extreme Commerce signed the MOU document and wished for its successful implementation in accordance with the parties’ shared goals and objectives. As part of the MoU, both organisations will hold a series of online and offline awareness sessions for SMEs on the benefits of e-commerce. Similarly, to address the paucity of educated labour essential for e-commerce, skills development programmes will be developed.
