An all girls team from Lahore Grammar School 55 Main has been crowned Global Finals Champions at the 2026 Global Future Space Scholars Meet Final Round in Beijing, China, representing Pakistan at the international competition and securing the top position alongside several team and individual awards. The championship winning team comprised twelve students, Alina Imran, Amna Ahmed, Areeba Shakeel, Eshaal Haroon, Fatima Farukh, Mariam Abdul Rahman, Shanzay Umar, Sheza Imran, Umayma Fatima, Wania Saqib, Zahra Fatima and Zainab Tahir, who were mentored and accompanied by teachers Amina Sabahat and Nadeem Anwar.
GFSSM is described as one of the leading international engineering and space focused competitions for school students, combining science, engineering, business, design, communication and problem solving through team based challenges. The 2026 finals were held in Beijing from August 13 to 17, bringing together 260 students from nine countries for the final round, with the wider competition involving participants from more than 17 countries and regions across earlier qualifying stages.
During the final round, students from different countries were grouped into multinational teams operating as virtual companies, with each team required to develop a space related project proposal within 24 hours before presenting and defending their work in front of a judging panel. This format tested participants not only on technical and engineering knowledge but also on business strategy, design thinking and the ability to communicate and defend ideas under significant time pressure alongside peers from other countries.
Pakistan was represented at the competition by students from several Lahore Grammar School campuses, including LGS 55 Main, LGS 14-C and LGS Phase 5. Beyond the champion team from LGS 55 Main, the LGS Phase 5 team also delivered a strong performance, finishing as second runner up, equivalent to third place, a position shared with three other international teams. The LGS Phase 5 team included Pareesa Zaid, Muhammad Raamish Nauman, Muhammad Rafay Ammar, Ibrahim Lodhi, Amna Qureshi, Umair Alam, Zoya Hasan Tariq, Alina Binte Amir, Isra Ahmed Bashir, Safdar Zaman, Muhammad Ahmad and Ali Khurram, giving Pakistani students two major finishes at this year’s international GFSSM competition.
