Local mobile phone manufacturing and assembly in Pakistan reached 3.90 million units in July 2026, according to figures from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, marking a 9 percent increase year over year. Production also jumped 102 percent compared to June, showing a strong monthly recovery after a period of subdued output earlier in the year. Topline Research linked the sharp rise to renewed consumer demand following delayed purchases ahead of the FY27 budget, a pattern that has previously influenced buying behavior around major fiscal announcements in Pakistan.
Despite July’s strong monthly growth, local production remained lower on a cumulative basis for the year so far. During the first seven months of 2026, manufacturers produced 17.00 million units, compared with 17.83 million units during the same period in 2025, reflecting a 5 percent decline over that longer stretch even as the most recent month showed clear momentum. Mobile phone imports, meanwhile, dropped sharply during July, falling 35 percent year over year and 83 percent month over month, with total imports standing at just 0.11 million units for the month.
As a result of this shift, locally made and assembled phones covered 97 percent of demand in July, a notable increase from 75 percent in May 2026, underscoring how quickly the balance between local production and imports has moved in recent months. Local production met 86 percent of total demand during the first seven months of 2026 overall, reflecting the broader trajectory of Pakistan’s push toward domestic mobile device manufacturing over imports.
Pakistan’s overall mobile phone market also grew in July, reaching 4.01 million units compared with 3.76 million units a year earlier, representing 7 percent year over year growth for the sector as a whole. The latest figures point to a strong shift toward locally manufactured and assembled phones taking hold across the market, even as cumulative production for the first seven months of the year remains below the levels recorded during the same period last year.
