Students in Mithi schools have received STEAM Learning Kits as part of an initiative titled Empowering Girls through STEAM Education, launched jointly by the Thar Education Alliance and HBL Foundation. The programme is designed to create more opportunities for girls in the Tharparkar region to explore science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics through hands on, practical learning rather than purely theoretical classroom instruction.
The initiative reflects a broader push to bring structured STEAM education resources to schools in Mithi, a town within Tharparkar district that has seen growing but still limited investment in technical education infrastructure in recent years, including nearby institutions such as the Thar Institute of Engineering, Science and Technology. By distributing hands on learning kits directly to schools, the programme aims to give girls in the region earlier, more tangible exposure to STEAM subjects, an area where female participation has historically lagged in Pakistan’s broader technology and engineering sectors.
Organizers framed the initiative around the idea that when girls are given the tools to explore, they are also given the confidence to imagine and build their future, positioning the kit distribution as a foundational step toward longer term participation in science and technology fields. The collaboration between Thar Education Alliance, a local organization focused on educational access in the Thar region, and HBL Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of Habib Bank Limited, brings together local implementation capacity with institutional funding support for the programme.
The initiative adds to a broader pattern of STEAM focused education programmes being introduced in underserved regions of Pakistan, aimed at expanding access to hands on science and technology learning beyond the country’s major urban centers.
