The Planning Commission of Pakistan has approved the establishment of the National Center for Cybersecurity, Big Data and Cloud Computing and Robotics and Automation.
The Planning Commission of Pakistan, while in a Central Development Working Party (CDWP) meet, has finally given the green signal for the establishment of 3 National Centers of Cyber Security, Big Data, and Cloud Computing, and Robotics and Automation, informed Athar Osama, the ICT member at the Planning Commission, Government of Pakistan. The works for the same had been initiated several months ago and is to finally see the light of day.
As per the proposal, the site for establishing the three national centers will be some of the best-known universities of Pakistan.
- National Center of Cyber Security will be established at Air University Islamabad
- National Center of Big Data and Cloud Computing at the Lahore University of Management Sciences
- National Center of Robotics and Automation to be established at the NUST College of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering in Rawalpindi.
The purpose of establishing the National centers is to carry out extensive researches in these cutting-edge fields and to help Pakistan make a notable standing in these sphere.
According to the report, these three National Centers along with the already operational National Center of Artificial Intelligence will engage more than 200 competent faculty members along with the several other professionals and students.
The establishment of National Centers in the advanced technology fields is a part of the Ministry of Planning and Development’s vision of 2025. Mr. Ahsan Iqbal, the Federal Minister of Planning, Development & Reforms, has already inaugurated the National Center for Artificial Intelligence at National University of Science and Technology Islamabad.
