Dr. Farkhanda Afzal, Associate Professor at the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at National University of Sciences and Technology, represented the university at two major international conferences held at Queen Mary University of London in the United Kingdom. She participated in the 17th International Conference on Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering and the 15th International Conference on Pure and Applied Mathematics, both of which were hosted at the London campus from July 15 to 18, 2026.

At the conferences, Dr. Farkhanda took part as an invited speaker, sharing her research expertise and contributing to international discussions centered on mathematical sciences and their expanding interdisciplinary applications. The two conferences brought together academics, researchers and industry experts from multiple countries, with ICMAE focusing on advances in mechanical and aerospace engineering and ICPAM centered on developments across pure and applied mathematics. Both events featured keynote sessions, technical presentations and opportunities for scholars to exchange research findings, with accepted papers set to be included in indexed international publications. The gatherings continued a long running tradition of international editions held in cities such as Rome, Zagreb, Porto and Brussels in previous years, reflecting their standing as established platforms for academic exchange in engineering and mathematics.

Beyond her role as an invited speaker, Dr. Farkhanda also organized a Special Session at ICPAM 2026, a format that allowed her to bring together researchers and experts working on related themes within mathematical sciences for a focused academic exchange. Special Sessions at conferences of this scale are typically proposed and led by individual scholars who take responsibility for curating presentations and moderating discussions within a specific research area, giving organizers a chance to shape academic dialogue around themes they consider significant. Her involvement in this capacity reflects an active role in shaping the scientific programme of the event rather than simply presenting research as an attendee.

Representation at conferences such as ICMAE and ICPAM offers Pakistani academics a platform to engage with international peers, present ongoing research and build collaborative ties that can extend beyond the conference itself. For SEECS and NUST more broadly, faculty participation in internationally recognized forums of this kind contributes to the university’s visibility within global academic and research networks, particularly in fields tied to mathematical sciences and their interdisciplinary uses across engineering and computing. Such engagements also create opportunities for Pakistani researchers to stay connected with emerging trends and methodologies being discussed among scholars from other countries.

NUST has continued to encourage faculty participation in international academic forums as part of its broader research and academic outreach efforts. Dr. Farkhanda’s participation at ICMAE and ICPAM 2026 adds to a growing list of engagements through which the university’s faculty have engaged with global academic communities, reinforcing NUST’s positioning as one of the leading institutions for research and academic collaboration within Pakistan’s higher education landscape.
