Insta360 has launched the Luna Pro, its second gimbal camera following the earlier Luna Ultra. The new model drops the Ultra’s secondary telephoto camera but retains a 1-inch sensor along with Leica optics, positioning it as a more streamlined offering within the company’s gimbal camera lineup. The Luna Pro is priced at around 505 dollars and is currently available in China, with Insta360 yet to announce a timeline for global availability.
The camera is built around a 1-inch CMOS sensor paired with a Leica Summicron lens offering an f/1.8 aperture and a 20mm equivalent focal length. It supports video recording up to 8K at 30fps, 4K at 120fps, and 1080p slow motion recording at 240fps, with Insta360 also claiming up to 14 stops of dynamic range along with support for 10-bit I-Log and Dolby Vision. Its standout feature is vertical video capability, with Insta360 describing the Luna Pro as the industry’s first gimbal camera able to output 4K video at 30fps directly in a 9:16 format, achieved through 6K oversampling to produce the vertical footage. The camera also offers 2x lossless 4K zoom and up to 4x enhanced digital zoom, with AI processing used to help maintain image detail at higher zoom levels.
On the software and control side, the Luna Pro features three axis stabilization along with AI powered subject tracking, and includes three Leica color presets labeled Chrome, Natural and Vivid, alongside six cinematic filters. Users are able to share their preferred color settings with others through QR codes, while the camera can automatically optimize portraits based on facial features and skin tone. A dedicated color temperature sensor also adjusts white balance automatically as lighting conditions change during a shoot. Physical controls include a 2-inch detachable OLED touchscreen that doubles as a wireless remote, offering video monitoring and camera control from up to 20 meters away, with a built-in wireless microphone housed within the remote itself.
On battery and storage, the Luna Pro packs a 1,550mAh battery with a claimed recording time of up to four hours, along with fast charging that can bring the battery to 80 percent in 23 minutes. The camera includes 47GB of built-in storage and supports expandable storage of up to 2TB. Insta360 has also introduced an optional head tracking accessory that allows users to control the gimbal based on their own head movements, enabling a first-person recording mode for more immersive footage capture.
