Pakistan has taken a significant step towards sustainable transportation with the launch of its first 120KW fast-charging station for electric vehicles (EVs). Developed by GoGreen Avenue, the station was inaugurated in Islamabad by Energy Minister Awais Leghari, marking a milestone in the country’s transition to clean energy and eco-friendly mobility solutions. The initiative is expected to encourage greater EV adoption by addressing one of the key barriers—charging infrastructure—while also reinforcing Pakistan’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and embracing renewable energy sources.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Leghari emphasized the government’s dedication to promoting green energy and sustainable transportation, highlighting the pivotal role of such projects in reshaping the country’s energy and mobility landscape. He noted that the introduction of the fast-charging station represents a crucial step in modernizing Pakistan’s transport sector, reducing dependence on fossil fuels, and mitigating environmental pollution. With global trends shifting towards electrification and renewable energy, the minister reaffirmed the government’s resolve to support initiatives that align with international sustainability goals.

In a major relief for electric vehicle users, Leghari also announced a significant reduction in electric charging unit prices, slashing rates from Rs71 to Rs39 per unit. The decision is expected to make EV ownership more financially viable for consumers, further incentivizing the transition from conventional fuel-powered vehicles to electric alternatives. The price reduction reflects the government’s strategy to create a more conducive environment for electric mobility by making charging more affordable and accessible to a wider audience.

The minister lauded the collaboration between the public and private sectors in bringing the project to life, acknowledging the critical role of private investment in driving sustainable development. He emphasized that public-private partnerships are essential in realizing Pakistan’s green energy ambitions, as they enable innovation, infrastructure expansion, and efficient resource utilization. GoGreen Avenue’s contribution to the project exemplifies how private sector involvement can complement government efforts to establish a robust and future-ready energy and transport ecosystem.

The launch of the fast-charging station comes at a time when Pakistan is increasingly focusing on renewable energy and climate-conscious policies. The government has been actively working to expand the country’s EV infrastructure, with plans to introduce more charging stations across major cities and highways. This effort aligns with Pakistan’s broader strategy to reduce its reliance on imported fuels, curb air pollution, and cut down greenhouse gas emissions in accordance with its commitments under the Paris Agreement on climate change.

Industry experts believe that the establishment of fast-charging infrastructure is crucial to accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles in Pakistan. While EV sales have been gradually increasing, concerns regarding charging accessibility and range anxiety have hindered widespread adoption. The availability of high-capacity charging stations such as the one inaugurated in Islamabad is expected to alleviate these concerns, providing EV users with a reliable and efficient charging solution.

Leghari concluded his address by reaffirming the government’s commitment to supporting green energy projects that offer long-term environmental and economic benefits. He reiterated that investments in clean transportation and renewable energy are not only essential for environmental sustainability but also for strengthening Pakistan’s energy security and reducing economic vulnerabilities associated with fossil fuel imports. The minister expressed hope that the launch of the fast-charging station would serve as a catalyst for further developments in the EV sector, paving the way for a cleaner, greener, and more energy-efficient future for Pakistan.
