Islamabad Police Adds 30 BYD Atto 2 Electric Vehicles To Modernize Emergency Response Fleet

Islamabad Police has added 30 new BYD Atto 2 electric vehicles to its fleet, marking a major update to its vehicles after a gap of 14 years. The addition of the electric cars is aimed at supporting police operations while introducing newer vehicle technology into the capital police fleet. The new vehicles are expected to contribute to emergency response operations by providing modern transportation for police personnel and improving mobility during duties. The move also introduces electric vehicles into a wider public service setting, reflecting the growing use of battery-powered transportation in institutional and government operations. With the BYD Atto 2 joining the existing fleet, Islamabad Police now has access to vehicles based on electric propulsion, offering an alternative to conventional petrol-powered cars for selected operational requirements. The introduction comes as electric vehicles continue to gain attention in Pakistan because of their potential to reduce fuel consumption and tailpipe emissions. For a police department operating across an urban area, the use of electric vehicles can also support quieter transportation while contributing to a more modern fleet structure. The 30 vehicles are expected to be used as part of routine and emergency-related duties, giving Islamabad Police an opportunity to integrate electric mobility into day-to-day policing activities.

The addition of the BYD Atto 2 vehicles represents a notable change for Islamabad Police because the department had not received a major fleet upgrade for 14 years. Updating police vehicles is important for maintaining mobility across different operational requirements, particularly when officers need to respond quickly to incidents or travel between different areas of the capital. Newer vehicles can provide updated vehicle systems, improved driving features and a more current transportation platform compared with older fleet models. The electric nature of the BYD Atto 2 also brings a different operating model for the department, as electric vehicles rely on battery charging rather than conventional fuel. Their use could provide operational experience that may inform future decisions regarding the adoption of electric vehicles across other public sector fleets.

The BYD Atto 2 is part of BYD portfolio of electric vehicles and has been positioned as a compact electric sport utility vehicle designed for urban and everyday mobility. Its inclusion in Islamabad Police fleet places an electric vehicle designed for road use in a public service environment where reliability and availability are important considerations. Police vehicles can be required to cover significant distances during regular duties, while emergency response can create additional demands on vehicle availability and mobility. The deployment of the Atto 2 therefore provides an opportunity to assess the practicality of electric vehicles under actual institutional use rather than only through private ownership. The move can also contribute to greater visibility for electric mobility in Pakistan, particularly as government departments and public institutions begin considering cleaner transportation options. At the same time, the operational success of such vehicles will depend on factors including charging arrangements, maintenance support, battery performance and the specific duties assigned to them. These considerations will be important as Islamabad Police integrates the vehicles into its existing operations.

The introduction of the 30 BYD Atto 2 electric vehicles also supports the department goal of moving toward a more modern and environmentally friendly police fleet. Electric vehicles produce no tailpipe emissions while driving, which can help reduce local vehicle emissions when they replace conventional fuel-powered vehicles for suitable journeys. Their use can therefore contribute to cleaner urban transportation while allowing public institutions to participate in the wider transition toward electric mobility. For Islamabad, where police vehicles operate across busy urban roads and residential areas, the quieter operation of electric cars can also provide an additional benefit during routine duties. The fleet addition does not simply represent the introduction of a new vehicle model, but also provides Islamabad Police with an opportunity to incorporate newer transportation technology into its operational structure after a long period without a major fleet update. The 30 BYD Atto 2 vehicles are expected to support emergency response and routine policing while giving the department practical experience with electric mobility. As Pakistan’s electric vehicle market develops, the deployment could also demonstrate how battery-powered vehicles can be integrated into public sector operations when the necessary charging, maintenance and fleet management arrangements are available.
