PTA has resumed issuing Class Licenses for Data Services, a requirement for VPN service providers to legally operate in Pakistan. This step is part of PTA’s effort to regulate the digital landscape and ensure the interests of users and stakeholders are protected. VPN providers will need to obtain these licenses in order to offer their services within the country.

PTA has made the application process and requirements available on its official website for interested service providers. This move aims to create a clear framework for VPN services to operate within the country while ensuring compliance with telecommunications laws.

Additionally, PTA clarified that no VPN services have been blocked in Pakistan so far, and it has no immediate plans to do so. While the authority has the power to restrict VPN usage, it has stated that this will not be pursued at this time, offering reassurance to users and service providers.

This development is a part of PTA’s ongoing efforts to balance regulatory oversight with the need for innovation in Pakistan’s digital sector. By resuming the issuance of Class Licenses and clarifying its stance on VPN restrictions, PTA is setting the stage for a more structured and secure digital environment in Pakistan.
