The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) has intensified its efforts to combat the spread of fake accounts and negative propaganda on social media platforms. In a recent development, the Ministry has identified an additional 19 websites that have been actively involved in disseminating false information and sowing discord within society. These websites specifically target institutions and personalities, aiming to tarnish their reputation and create a negative atmosphere.
The MoITT has taken immediate action by directing the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to address these activities promptly. The Ministry is determined to curb the influence of these websites and mitigate the damage caused by their negative propaganda campaigns. The exploitation of these platforms to spread misinformation and manipulate public opinion poses a significant threat to online discourse and societal harmony.
To combat this issue, the Ministry has urged the urgent blocking of these websites to prevent the further proliferation of negative propaganda. It is crucial to halt their activities and safeguard the integrity of online information. The magnitude of the problem is evident, with a total of 97 websites identified as being involved in spreading negative propaganda. Notices have already been sent to 80 websites, urging them to cease their operations and rectify their content.
The MoITT’s actions reflect the government’s commitment to combatting fake news and maintaining a healthy digital environment. By targeting websites engaged in spreading false information and discord, the Ministry aims to protect the reputation of institutions and individuals while fostering a more responsible and trustworthy online landscape.
