The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, working alongside the Federal Investigation Agency, carried out two raids against internet service providers operating without valid licenses in Gujrat district. According to a press release issued by PTA, the operations were conducted by the authority’s Zonal Office in Lahore with support from the FIA Corporate Crime Circle in Gujrat.
The first raid took place at a facility in Habib Plaza, Karianwala, where internet services were being provided through fiber optic and point to point links without the required PTA license. During the operation, one suspect was sacked and several pieces of equipment were seized, including a MikroTik cloud switch router, three optical line terminals, four GPON ONUs, and a radius server.
A second raid was carried out at a location on Main GT Road in Sarai Alamgir, where another individual was sacked. Authorities recovered two network switches from Cisco and Grandstream, five optical line terminals, four GPON ONUs, a radius server, and an invoice slip connected to the unlicensed operation.
PTA said the raids form part of its continued campaign against unauthorized internet services and efforts to enforce telecom licensing regulations across the country. The authority added that taking action against illegal operators helps prevent financial losses to the national exchequer while supporting a fair and properly regulated telecommunications sector. PTA advised consumers to obtain internet and telecom services only from licensed operators to avoid unexpected service disruptions, noting that a full list of authorized providers is available on its official website.
