Punjab’s School Education Department has begun developing a unique ID and unified data system for around 15 million students enrolled in government schools across the province, aiming to create a centralized digital record covering the entire public school network. Under the new system, education authorities will be able to track individual students and retrieve key information with a single click, including pass or fail status, class, age, health records, and city of residence.
The unique ID will remain linked to each student even after a school transfer, ensuring their academic record stays intact throughout their education. Secretary School Education Mudassar Riaz Malik said the unified system is being introduced to strengthen administrative management and improve education standards across the province’s public school network.
According to Malik, the first phase of the project will focus on assigning unique IDs to students in government schools, after which the requirement will be extended to private educational institutions. He added that the project will be formally implemented once it receives approval from the Punjab Chief Minister, indicating the initiative remains in its planning stages pending final sign off.
The move follows a similar initiative in Sindh, where the provincial government announced the full digitization of the student enrolment system across all public and government supported schools earlier this month. Under Sindh’s framework, every student will be issued a unique admission identification linked to their B-Form, creating a single digital profile that remains with them throughout their academic journey. The decision was announced by Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah during a meeting with senior NADRA officials, with the proposed system integrating education data with NADRA while maintaining enrolment records, attendance, academic performance, examination history, and school transfers through a centralized digital platform. Together, the two provincial initiatives reflect a broader push across Pakistan’s education sector toward centralized, NADRA linked student data systems aimed at improving administrative oversight and continuity of academic records.
