Zain Bahrain has successfully deployed artificial intelligence capabilities within its live 5G radio network in partnership with Ericsson, becoming the first operator in the region to achieve this particular milestone. The company described the deployment as an important step in its continued push toward smart innovation and its broader ambition to support Bahrain’s digital transformation through advanced, AI enabled telecommunications solutions.
The milestone follows the successful evaluation of Ericsson’s AI native Scheduler for Link Adaptation solution on Zain Bahrain’s live network, a technology that allows the network to make smarter, real time decisions based on changing demand and usage patterns. This capability is designed to help improve overall network performance and efficiency by adjusting to shifting conditions automatically rather than relying on static configurations, particularly during periods of high data usage.
Zain Bahrain Chief Technology Officer Ali Isa Al Yaham said becoming the first operator in the region to deploy and validate AI capabilities in a live radio network marks a major milestone in the company’s journey toward building the networks of the future. He added that the achievement extends beyond simply introducing new technology, framing it instead as a step toward delivering faster, smarter and more reliable connectivity for customers, while also supporting Bahrain’s broader digital transformation goals and the company’s ongoing shift from a traditional telecom operator toward becoming a technology solutions provider. He noted that the deployment aligns with Zain Group’s broader 4WARD strategy, which centers on using technology to create meaningful impact and enable more connected experiences across the region.
Building on this deployment, Zain Bahrain said it is exploring additional AI driven use cases across both network operations and customer facing functions, with the goal of building a more efficient and future ready telecommunications ecosystem. According to the company, the technology is expected to particularly benefit customers using data heavy services such as video streaming, online gaming, video conferencing, social media and cloud applications, with early results already showing measurable improvements in network speed and efficiency following the deployment.
