A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Engro Polymer & Chemicals (EPCL), a division of Engro Corporation, and the esteemed University of Engineering & Technology (UET), Lahore, aims to strengthen the relationship between industry and academia by fostering collaboration in research and innovation as well as providing opportunities for students to advance their careers. In the presence of representatives from both organisations and the Pakistan Chemical Manufacturers Association, Haroon Ali Khan (Sr. Vice Chairman) and Abrar Ahmed, Jahangir Piracha (CEO of EPCL) and Professor Dr. Syed Mansoor Sarwar (Vice Chancellor, UET Lahore) signed the Memorandum of Understanding (Vice President).

According to the agreement, EPCL and UET will collaborate on research and development projects at the institute’s Polymer & Process engineering faculty’s state-of-the-art testing facilities. The quality function and EPCL’s PVC manufacturing process will both benefit quantitatively from this relationship. Additionally, it will increase technical specialists’ availability and knowledge bases for EPCL’s Techno-Commercial operations. With the use of these resources, EPCL may also provide PVC finished products producers technical, managerial, and consulting services for improved performance and creative solutions.

For the purpose of enhancing the skills of UET students and faculty, EPCL will also help students with real-world final year projects and work with the UET to build and upgrade its curriculum, including polymer industry-specific subject matter, to guarantee alignment with market demands.
The CEO of EPCL, Jahangir Piracha, stated that the company was always working to offer new market development and awareness efforts that would improve sustainability in the construction industry. This strategic partnership with the UET has been designed to advance Pakistani R&D so that the polymer industry may advance via innovation. Additionally, we want to improve the abilities of our bright young people, foster their growth, and increase their marketability in the sector.

The vice chancellor of UET Lahore, Professor Dr. Syed Mansoor Sarwar, said, “The UET professors and students are really thrilled about this relationship with EPCL. I am convinced that the industry will gain from our cutting-edge testing facilities to assist the creation of new products because of the UET’s emphasis on research. I hope additional chemical industry participants in Pakistan take up their efforts to close the gap between business and academics.
The UET students will also get the opportunity to take part in EPCL’s cooperative education programme as part of a Sustainable Development Initiative.
