The most-awaited electric automobiles would be launched in Pakistan by the end of 2021, according to Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam.
In an interview with a private news programme, he stated that it will help increase the economy, cut pollution, and create jobs in the country.
According to the special assistant, Pakistan has already deployed electric motorbikes and rickshaws as part of its “Green Pakistan” initiative to minimise carbon emissions.
Electric bikes, rickshaws, and vehicles, according to Amin, were the future of the country’s transportation system. As a result, electric cars will be available in Pakistan by the end of 2021.
Pakistan is moving quickly to address climate change, he said, citing the planting of 10 billion trees, the ban on single-use plastic bags, policies on electric vehicles, green buildings, proper waste management, clean drinking water, 15 new national parks, projects related to melting glaciers, natural based isolation, and various climate smart agriculture projects as examples.
He said the government will soon unveil a national park service in which more local people would be involved in running national parks to conserve nearby conservation areas, which is currently underway. It would assist in increasing revenue.
The project, in addition to enhancing eco-tourism in the country, will produce new jobs, primarily for young people who will serve as park guards and custodians, according to Amin.
He stated that hosting World Environment Day and marking the United Nations Decade of Ecosystem Restoration was an honour for Pakistan.
Pakistan, under Prime Minister Imran Khan’s leadership, would set a new standard and take the lead in addressing climate change and environmental concerns.
He added the prime minister would present the country’s first Blue Carbon Report during the June 4 event. He noted that it had never been done before and would highlight various methods to address environmental concerns.
He also stated that a climate-smart agricultural policy would be implemented in the country soon, beginning in eight districts and then being expanded across the country.
This smart agriculture project would update agricultural processes for a country like Pakistan, where agriculture employs nearly half of the population, he added.
According to him, this effort would boost the agricultural system along the Indus River and train farmers in resistant agriculture techniques as well as better irrigation system management.
