Egypt and China have signed five agreements and memoranda of understanding to deepen cooperation across several strategic sectors during Chinese President Xi Jinping’s official visit to Cairo. The agreements include a memorandum outlining priority areas of cooperation between Egypt Vision 2030 and China’s Belt and Road Initiative, signed by Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Zheng Shanjie, Chairman of China’s National Development and Reform Commission.
The two countries also concluded an Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement, alongside a memorandum focused on strengthening collaboration in industrial development and supply chains. These documents were signed by Egyptian Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Mohamed Farid Saleh and Chinese Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao, reflecting the broader economic dimension of the visit beyond technology cooperation alone.
Further agreements addressed cooperation in information technology between Egypt’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and China’s National Development and Reform Commission, as well as a memorandum between the Suez Canal Economic Zone and China’s Ministry of Commerce aimed at expanding economic cooperation. More than 20 additional cooperation documents were signed on the sidelines of the visit, covering areas including technology, finance, digital transformation, transportation and media.
The visit began with an official reception for President Xi Jinping and his wife at Al Ittihadiya Palace, hosted by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and First Lady Entissar El-Sisi, featuring a cavalry parade, a 21-gun salute and an honor guard inspection. The agreements highlight the continued expansion of the Egypt-China strategic partnership, with both nations seeking to increase investment flows, strengthen economic ties and accelerate cooperation in technology and innovation as part of their broader bilateral relationship.
