The Sindh government has announced a series of public transport initiatives covering new bus routes, electric vehicle services, double decker buses, and accelerated Bus Rapid Transit projects across the province. The plans were discussed during a review meeting chaired by Sindh Senior Minister for Transport Sharjeel Inam Memon, where officials provided updates on ongoing and upcoming transport projects. The measures are aimed at expanding public transport options and improving access to affordable and reliable mobility for residents in different parts of Sindh.
Among the key developments, the Peoples Bus Service is set to be extended to the Qambar Shahdadkot to Larkana route, with preparations for the new service already underway. Officials have also confirmed that arrangements for introducing double decker buses are being finalized, while a detailed operational plan is being prepared for the province’s upcoming electric vehicle taxi service. The expansion of the Peoples Bus Service is intended to provide residents with additional public transport options and improve connectivity between different areas. Sharjeel Memon directed the relevant authorities to complete logistical and administrative arrangements for the new bus routes without delay as part of the wider expansion of the provincial transport network.
The provincial government is also continuing work on electric and mass transit initiatives. A pink scooty distribution drive is scheduled to take place in Mirpurkhas on September 5 as part of the government’s initiative to support women’s mobility. In addition, Sharjeel Memon directed the concerned departments to accelerate work on Bus Rapid Transit projects and maintain coordination to avoid delays in implementation. The focus on BRT development comes alongside the planned expansion of conventional bus services and the introduction of new transport options, giving the provincial government several projects to manage across different areas of Sindh.
The latest announcements add to Sindh government plans for expanding cleaner and more modern public transportation. Earlier plans included the launch of an electric vehicle taxi service in September, the phased addition of 1,000 electric buses across the province by the end of 2026, and the arrival of 50 double decker buses in Karachi in October. The current review has also placed emphasis on expanding the Peoples Bus Service and speeding up BRT projects, indicating that Sindh’s transport program is being developed across multiple modes. The combination of electric mobility, additional bus routes, double decker buses, and BRT infrastructure is intended to expand the available public transport network and provide residents with more options for daily travel.
