The Punjab government has introduced a modern digital system for inspecting and monitoring prisons across the province as part of its prison reforms agenda. The initiative includes an online portal and an Executive Monitoring Dashboard designed to provide officials with improved oversight of administrative affairs across prisons. The system is intended to replace conventional inspection and monitoring procedures with a technology based approach, allowing relevant authorities to access updated information and review prison operations through digital platforms.
Secretary Home Punjab Dr. Ahmad Javed Qazi reviewed the newly developed online portal for prison inspection and monitoring and directed the Directorate of Monitoring and senior prison officers to conduct inspections through the digital platform instead of relying on conventional procedures. During the review, the Secretary Home examined prison inspection reports through the Executive Monitoring Dashboard. The system provides real-time information related to prison security, administration, prisoner status, and compliance with applicable prison laws, rules, and regulations. This allows officials involved in oversight to access information through a centralized digital platform while reviewing the administrative and operational position of prisons across Punjab.
The Executive Monitoring Dashboard also contains online information for individual prisons across Punjab, including their authorized capacity, current inmate population, and the number of prisoners admitted and released each day. The availability of these details through a digital system is intended to give officials a more direct view of prison populations and administrative conditions across different facilities. During the review, Dr. Ahmad Javed Qazi instructed the Directorate of Monitoring and concerned Deputy Inspectors General of Prisons to align their inspection and monitoring mechanisms with available modern technological tools. The move places greater emphasis on digital access to operational information as part of the province’s prison administration and inspection process.
The Secretary Home also reviewed the online portal of the Chief Minister Punjab Prison Welfare Stores during the session and observed prisoners’ interests and purchasing patterns through the digital platform. The introduction of the prison inspection portal and Executive Monitoring Dashboard comes as Punjab continues to incorporate digital systems into government administration and oversight. By bringing inspection reports, prison capacity information, inmate population figures, daily admission and release data, security information, and compliance details into an online monitoring environment, the system is intended to provide officials with a centralized mechanism for reviewing prison operations and administrative performance. The provincial government’s initiative therefore represents a shift toward technology supported inspection and monitoring of prisons, with officials expected to use the new portal and dashboard as part of their regular oversight activities.
