Dyson has entered the oral care category with the launch of the CameraJet, a super engineered toothbrush that combines a camera, water tank and motors to bring brushing, flossing and rinsing together in a single device. Company founder James Dyson said the product combines a camera, machine learning, precision fluid dynamics, advanced brushing technologies, connectivity and Wi-Fi to introduce an entirely new way to keep the mouth healthy.
The CameraJet features what Dyson calls a 100k pixel macro lens camera mounted directly under the brush head, supported by 16 million lines of code and a machine learning system trained on 470,000 dental images collected during development. This computer vision system allows the device to identify gaps between teeth, and when it detects one, it fires a conical jet of fluid to help floss while brushing, with the Gap Optical Targeting system analyzing 28 live images per second and jetting the gap within 100 milliseconds of detection.
Beyond automated jetting, the camera also connects to a companion MyDyson app, giving users a better view of their mouth, particularly the back of their teeth, along with personalized feedback on brushing technique. Dyson said no images are recorded or stored on the product or in the cloud, addressing a natural privacy concern for a camera equipped device used inside the mouth. The toothbrush also uses an anti-gravity tank with a diaphragm pump and pressure chamber designed to deliver controlled jets regardless of how the device is held or oriented.
On the brush head itself, the CameraJet features a dual bristle design with softer outer bristles for the gumline and firmer inner bristles targeting surface stains, along with an RFID tag that tracks usage and signals when a replacement is needed. The device charges and refills through a docking station that can top up its water tank in three seconds, and comes with a travel case included. The Dyson CameraJet is available now in Ceramic Ultra Blue and Ceramic Pink for 499 dollars, positioning it roughly 100 dollars above premium competitors like the Philips Sonicare Prestige 9900 and Oral-B iO Series 10.
