Chinese commercial space company Geespace, a subsidiary of Geely Holding, has entered into a cooperation agreement with Pakistan’s satellite communications operator Paksat International to support the deployment of satellite based connectivity services across Pakistan and nearby regional markets. The collaboration is designed to strengthen digital infrastructure, improve access to communications in remote and underserved areas, and contribute to the expansion of the region’s digital economy. Paksat shared details of the partnership through a social media post, highlighting the role satellite technology can play in addressing connectivity gaps where terrestrial networks face cost and terrain related challenges.

The agreement centers on policy coordination, technical collaboration, and market development for Geespace’s low Earth orbit satellite Internet of Things constellation in Pakistan and surrounding territories. According to Geespace, Paksat will assist in regulatory engagement, spectrum coordination, and compliance requirements necessary for commercial satellite operations in the country. Both organizations will also explore joint efforts in network access, service integration, and marketing initiatives aimed at introducing satellite enabled connectivity solutions for industries, government agencies, and service providers. The partnership reflects a broader push to combine local operational expertise with international satellite technology capabilities.

Geespace Chief Executive Wang Yang stated that the company will deliver “all weather” and “high reliability” satellite communication services designed to address practical connectivity needs such as coverage gaps in hard to reach regions, industrial digitalisation projects, and cross regional communications support. Pakistan’s varied geography, including mountainous and sparsely populated areas, has made traditional network expansion expensive and time consuming for telecom operators, leaving many communities with limited access to reliable connectivity. Satellite services are positioned as a complementary solution that can extend coverage more efficiently while also providing backup communication channels when terrestrial networks experience disruptions.

Paksat, established in 2004, operates Pakistan’s commercial satellite capacity and provides communication services to broadcasters, telecom companies, internet and data service providers, as well as government institutions. Its role in managing satellite resources places it at the center of the country’s space based communications infrastructure. By partnering with Geespace, Paksat aims to introduce advanced low Earth orbit satellite services that can support emerging digital applications, including IoT connectivity, remote monitoring, and data transmission across challenging terrains.

Geespace is currently building and operating a low Earth orbit satellite IoT constellation known as Geesatcom. The company has completed six satellite launches between 2022 and 2025, with a total of 64 satellites now in orbit. It has also partnered with telecom operators in various regions and carried out overseas commercial validation tests in more than 20 countries. The expansion into Pakistan represents another step in its strategy to scale satellite based connectivity services internationally, particularly in markets where traditional infrastructure development faces economic or geographic constraints.

The collaboration highlights the growing role of satellite communications in supporting national digital infrastructure goals, offering new connectivity options for rural communities, industrial sectors, and public services. By combining Paksat’s local market presence with Geespace’s low Earth orbit satellite technology, the partnership aims to broaden access to reliable communication networks while supporting Pakistan’s broader digital development efforts.
