The Google TV Streamer, along with a range of Nest cameras and doorbells, has received a significant price rise in what continues to be a difficult year for the value of technology products. The streaming box, which replaced the Chromecast of Google, has gone up by 50 percent, from $99.99 to $149.99. The increase applies only in the United States for now, and it takes effect from August 31. The change places the device in a higher price bracket for buyers in the US market, while the Nest cameras and doorbells that are included in the announcement are also affected, although the source of the report highlights the streaming box as the main product that has been changed.

In a statement to 9to5Google, Google said that rising component costs have forced the company to adjust the prices of these devices in the United States. The Google TV Streamer, which was launched two years ago, is therefore another product that has been affected by the memory crisis that has pushed up the cost of components across the technology industry. Google had announced earlier this year that it was also forced to raise the prices of its Pixel phones because of component costs, a step that began with the Pixel 11 phones, so the latest increase continues a pattern that the company has already followed in another product line.

Outside the United States, the price of the device has not changed so far. In the United Kingdom, the Google TV Streamer can still be bought from the official store of Google for £99. The company has not confirmed that a similar increase will be applied in other markets, and the report only notes that such a step feels likely. Buyers in other regions who are thinking about purchasing the device may therefore wish to do so before any possible change in price, although this advice rests on an expectation rather than on an announcement by Google.

The Google TV Streamer is listed with a price of $99.99 at retailers that were checked when the report was prepared, including Best Buy and the Google store, while Walmart listed it at $146.99. The report describes the rise as part of a wider trend in which makers of devices pass on the cost of memory and other components to consumers. For now, the increase is limited to the United States and covers the Google TV Streamer and a range of Nest cameras and doorbells, and Google has said that rising component costs were the reason for adjusting the prices of those devices.
