Mari Energies Limited has signed a Letter of Award with Norway-based Electromagnetic Geoservices ASA (EMGS) for controlled-source electromagnetic (CSEM) data acquisition across multiple offshore exploration blocks operated by the company. The agreement aims to support offshore exploration activities in Pakistan through advanced geophysical survey technology designed to improve the assessment of potential hydrocarbon resources.

The development followed a visit by a senior EMGS delegation to Mari Energies, which included management meetings, technical discussions and engagement with offshore joint venture partners. Representatives of the company’s Pakistani joint venture partners, along with Turkish Petroleum, participated in discussions with the EMGS management team. The meetings focused on aligning exploration priorities and evaluating the role of advanced geophysical technologies in assessing Pakistan’s offshore energy potential.

Under the initiative, Mari Energies plans to integrate CSEM technology into the evaluation, ranking and de-risking of offshore prospects. The technology uses electromagnetic measurements to help assess subsurface formations and identify areas that may warrant further exploration. When used alongside conventional subsurface analysis, CSEM surveys can provide additional information to support the assessment of prospective hydrocarbon-bearing formations and improve the understanding of offshore drilling opportunities.

The integration of advanced geophysical techniques is expected to support more informed decisions regarding the selection of future offshore drilling targets. The collaboration also reflects Mari Energies’ focus on adopting technology-driven exploration methods and working with international specialists and joint venture partners to assess offshore prospects. As Pakistan continues to explore opportunities in its offshore energy sector, initiatives involving advanced survey technologies could contribute to a more detailed understanding of the country’s offshore resource potential.
