Meta has rolled out Instagram Map in Pakistan, providing users with a new interactive way to connect with friends, discover content, and explore local activities while ensuring privacy remains central to the experience. Announced on October 4, the feature is now accessible at the top of the direct message inbox and integrates seamlessly with Instagram’s existing sharing tools.

The new map allows users in Pakistan to share their location and discover stories, reels, posts, and notes tagged with locations, creating opportunities to see what friends and creators are sharing from concerts, cafes, restaurants, or community events. Users also have the flexibility to choose their level of visibility by opting to share their last active location with selected friends, close friends, or keeping it entirely private. To maintain transparency, a persistent indicator at the top of the map shows whether location sharing is active, while reminders appear when adding tags to content.

Meta has emphasized privacy controls as a central part of this rollout. Location sharing is turned off by default, and users retain full authority over who can access their information. Parents managing teen accounts have also been given oversight tools to supervise location sharing preferences, ensuring safer use of the platform among younger users. To further strengthen the update, Meta refined the Instagram Map experience by removing profile photos from map-based content, improving clarity on when location sharing is disabled, and introducing previews so users can see how their tagged content will appear to others.

The launch builds on earlier updates announced by Meta in August, which introduced new features designed to enhance engagement and sharing on Instagram. These updates included a repost function that enables users to highlight content on their profile, a live location map for interactive discovery, and a “Friends” tab in Reels that brings forward content engaged with by one’s circle. With the introduction of Instagram Map in Pakistan, Meta continues to expand the app’s functionality by integrating location-based features that balance discovery with robust privacy protections.
