Pakistan has launched the AI Wrapper Competition 2025 through Ignite Pakistan under the Ministry of IT & Telecom as part of the Digital Pakistan initiative. The nationwide contest has been created to encourage the development of AI-based solutions for local challenges in priority areas such as education, healthcare, governance, climate and finance. Officials say the competition is aligned with the National AI Policy and aims to promote ethical and explainable AI while supporting the development of a skilled workforce to meet the country’s future technology needs.

The initiative is expected to drive digital transformation across the public sector and enhance Pakistan’s presence in the global AI community. By creating a platform for AI-driven innovation, Ignite Pakistan is providing opportunities for young professionals, researchers and entrepreneurs to develop practical solutions tailored to the country’s requirements. The program is also designed to strengthen cross-sector collaboration, giving participants access to cloud infrastructure, open datasets and technical mentorship to build prototypes capable of scaling nationally and competing on an international level.

Officials revealed that the AI Wrapper Competition will bring together over 500 AI fellows and aims to generate at least 25 deployable prototypes addressing real-world challenges. By fostering an environment of experimentation and problem-solving, the initiative seeks to build a pipeline of local talent capable of developing solutions that meet international standards. Participants are encouraged to design applications that not only address immediate needs but also contribute to a sustainable and inclusive digital ecosystem in Pakistan.

The competition will be conducted through a structured evaluation process beginning with regional rounds in Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, Quetta and Islamabad before culminating in a grand finale in the capital. Solutions will be assessed on their scalability, innovation and adherence to ethical AI principles. By establishing this nationwide framework, officials hope to create a community of innovators who can set new benchmarks for AI development and implementation in Pakistan. The program’s emphasis on ethical AI, open collaboration and hands-on application development positions it as a key step in cultivating a skilled workforce capable of leveraging artificial intelligence for the country’s economic and social advancement.
