Jazz, Pakistan’s connectivity provider operating under JazzWorld, has reached 11 million users of JazzFi, its Voice over Wi-Fi (VoWiFi) service. The milestone reflects growing adoption of Wi-Fi-based calling technology that enables customers to make and receive calls using their existing mobile numbers through an available Wi-Fi connection. Introduced in July 2023, JazzFi was the first service of its kind in Pakistan to allow direct Wi-Fi-enabled calls to mobile and landline numbers without requiring a separate application.

JazzFi is designed to improve voice connectivity in locations where cellular signals are weak or inconsistent, including indoor environments and buildings with limited mobile coverage. By routing calls through Wi-Fi, the service provides an alternative way for customers to stay connected when traditional network signals are unreliable. It also supports simultaneous voice and data usage, allowing users to continue accessing online services while making calls through compatible devices.

Khalid Shehzad, Chief Technology Officer at JazzWorld, said VoWiFi complements conventional mobile networks by providing another option for reliable voice communication. He noted that integrating the technology into Jazz’s network helps customers stay connected while making better use of available network resources. The growing number of users highlights the role of complementary technologies in improving the calling experience and extending connectivity beyond the limitations of cellular coverage.

JazzFi is available nationwide on compatible smartphones, and customers can activate the feature through their device settings, provided their handset, SIM and service support Wi-Fi calling. Once enabled, calls can be made through the phone’s standard calling interface using the customer’s existing number. Jazz continues to invest in its mobile network and related connectivity technologies as it works to improve service quality and respond to changing customer needs. Actual performance depends on Wi-Fi quality, device compatibility and network conditions.
