The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication has encouraged qualified Pakistani citizens to apply for the position of Chief, Oversight Unit at the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the United Nations specialised agency for information and communication technologies. The vacancy is based at ITU headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, and is open to external candidates. According to the ministry’s job listing, the position was posted on October 15, 2026, with applications closing on October 21. The announcement provides Pakistani professionals with an opportunity to compete for a senior international role involving organisational oversight, accountability and the evaluation of institutional operations. Interested candidates are advised to review the official vacancy notice carefully to determine whether their qualifications and professional experience meet the stated requirements.

The Chief of the Oversight Unit is responsible for providing strategic leadership and managing the unit’s work across internal audit, investigations and evaluation. The role is intended to support independent and objective assessments of ITU operations, helping the organisation examine its governance arrangements, risk management practices and internal controls. The successful candidate will provide oversight advice and reporting to senior leadership and other relevant stakeholders, with the objective of improving organisational performance and accountability. The position also involves establishing strategies and frameworks for the unit, ensuring that its work follows applicable international standards and professional practices. The Oversight Unit operates with functional and operational independence in carrying out its responsibilities, allowing it to assess organisational activities based on risk, relevance and the need for effective oversight.

The vacancy falls within ITU’s General Secretariat, which manages administrative resources and supports the organisation’s wider operations. ITU works internationally on telecommunications and information and communication technologies, including policy coordination, technical cooperation and engagement with governments and other stakeholders. Its oversight function is separate from the delivery of these activities and is designed to provide independent assurance regarding the organisation’s governance and operational practices. The Chief will be expected to coordinate the unit’s different functions and provide leadership across audit, investigation and evaluation activities. Given the seniority and breadth of the position, applicants should consult the official job description for the detailed educational, professional and competency requirements before submitting an application. The ministry’s announcement encourages eligible Pakistanis to consider the opportunity but does not indicate that the position is reserved for Pakistani nationals.

Applications must be submitted through ITU’s official online recruitment system. Candidates should open the vacancy listing, create or access their recruitment profile, complete the required information and submit the application before the stated deadline. ITU says applications are assessed against the vacancy criteria and the selection process may include tests, assessments and competency-based interviews. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for further stages, and reference checks may be conducted during the final selection process. Applicants should rely on the official ITU recruitment page for the complete requirements and any updates to the vacancy. The application deadline is October 21, 2026, at midnight Geneva time, so candidates should account for the time difference when submitting their documents. ITU also states that it does not charge candidates a fee at any stage of recruitment. The vacancy offers a potential international career path for experienced professionals with relevant oversight and leadership backgrounds, while the ministry’s announcement aims to ensure that qualified Pakistanis are aware of the opening.
