PTA has announced a revision in radio frequency spectrum and license fees for Radio Based Services (RBS). The decision comes after a 24-year gap since the last update, with the aim of aligning charges with increased administrative costs and the rising value of services.

PTA has introduced a phased approach to the revision, with the new rates applicable for the next 3-5 years. Two mechanisms have been proposed: flat rates for specific RBS categories and formula-based rates for PRN services.

The revision aims to simplify the calculation of frequency charges and make them independent of terminal equipment. The new rates will be applicable to all RBS providers, with existing licensees required to pay revised fees for the remaining license tenure. New and renewed licenses will incur charges for the full five-year term upfront.

PTA’s decision is expected to impact various sectors, including aviation, maritime, and land mobile services.
