Keychron has expanded beyond its established mechanical keyboard and mouse lineup with the Thunderbolt 5 Dock, a desktop connectivity solution designed for users who need additional ports, high-speed data transfers, display connectivity and laptop charging through a single connection. The dock is built around Thunderbolt 5 and offers up to 80Gbps data transfer speeds, with support for 120Gbps bandwidth in supported boost scenarios. It can also provide up to 140W of upstream power delivery, allowing compatible laptops to remain charged while connected to multiple peripherals. The device features 14 connections across its front and rear panels, positioning it as a workstation-focused accessory for users handling external displays, storage devices, memory cards, wired networking and audio equipment. Keychron has also designed the dock to operate without a cooling fan, allowing it to remain silent during normal use.

The front of the Thunderbolt 5 Dock includes three USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports, with two USB-A connections and one USB-C port, all supporting data transfers of up to 10Gbps. It also includes both full-size SD and microSD card slots, making the dock particularly useful for photographers, videographers and other users who regularly transfer files from removable storage. A 3.5mm audio jack is also included, with the dock providing an integrated audio interface that supports microphones for calls and basic audio input. Around the back, users get three Thunderbolt 5 ports, including one upstream connection for the host computer and two downstream ports for peripherals such as high-speed external SSDs. The rear panel also carries two additional USB-A ports, a 2.5Gb Ethernet connection, two HDMI outputs and a Kensington security slot. This combination gives the dock a broad range of connectivity without requiring users to rely on multiple adapters.

Display support is another major part of Keychron’s offering, with the dock capable of handling up to four displays depending on the computer, ports and configuration being used. The two HDMI outputs can operate at up to 4K resolution and 60Hz, while higher-resolution or higher-refresh-rate displays can be connected through Thunderbolt. There are differences between Windows and macOS when using multiple displays, however. Windows systems generally offer greater flexibility with multiple HDMI connections, while macOS does not natively treat HDMI hubs or splitters in the same way. As a result, users connecting two displays through the dock’s HDMI outputs to a Mac may encounter mirrored screens rather than independent displays. A combination of the laptop’s own display connection, one HDMI output and Thunderbolt connections can provide more flexibility for multi-monitor setups. The dock’s Thunderbolt connectivity also leaves users with options for high-speed storage and other demanding peripherals rather than dedicating every available port to displays.

For users working with large files, the dock’s storage and connectivity performance is one of its more practical features. The review found that external storage devices were consistently recognized, while data transfers remained close to the maximum expected speeds even when multiple sources were being used at the same time. Its solid construction and weight also help keep the dock stationary when connecting or removing memory cards and cables. Keychron’s Thunderbolt 5 Dock is priced at around $350, placing it in the same broad segment as several competing Thunderbolt 5 docks from brands such as CalDigit, Razer and Anker. Some alternatives offer features such as additional USB-C ports, DisplayPort connectivity, RGB lighting or integrated SSD slots, while Keychron focuses on a combination of dual HDMI outputs, Thunderbolt 5, media-card support, 2.5Gb Ethernet and high-power laptop charging. The result is a workstation dock aimed particularly at users who need extensive connectivity for creative work, multiple displays and high-speed storage without filling their desks with separate adapters and hubs.
