Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) is accelerating its digital transformation efforts with plans to make a wide range of government services available online through its official digital portal. The initiative is being pursued under the AJK government’s 100-day reform agenda and is aimed at making public services more accessible while reducing the need for citizens to visit government offices in person. AJK Prime Minister Barrister Iftikhar Gillani has directed authorities to operationalise the official AJK Digital Portal at the earliest, with the government seeking to make services easier, faster and more transparent for citizens.
Under the planned system, services that can be shifted to digital platforms in the initial phase will be integrated into the portal, allowing residents to access them from their homes. The initiative is also expected to benefit the AJK diaspora living outside the region by providing access to relevant government services remotely. By reducing dependence on paper-based procedures and repeated visits to government offices, the digital portal is intended to lower the time and costs associated with accessing public services while improving administrative efficiency and transparency. The digital transformation agenda is being developed with technical support from the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB), which is contributing its experience in implementing digital government initiatives.
PITB recently said its team visited AJK to discuss the pilot phase of the AJK Prime Minister’s 100-Day Roadmap and shared its experience with digital initiatives with senior officials. The roadmap includes a proposed “AJK One” model designed as a one-stop government service delivery platform for citizens. A total of 19 digital initiatives have been identified for pilot implementation during the current fiscal year. These include e-Stamping and e-Registry, digital payment services, e-Procurement, a Prime Minister’s Complaint Cell, school education systems, HR management systems, job portals, hotel and rest-house registration and booking, and other public service platforms. The broader programme also covers digital systems for complaints, land-related services and administrative processes, reflecting an effort to bring multiple government functions under technology-enabled platforms.
The AJK government’s digital push is therefore moving beyond the creation of a single online portal and toward a broader digital governance framework. The administration has said the objective is to improve the speed and transparency of government services while making them more convenient for citizens. With PITB providing technical expertise and multiple services being prepared for digitisation, the initiative represents a significant expansion of online public-service delivery across AJK.
